OKC vs. Team Nada (W)

Posted by M3RCUTIO on December 3rd, 2009 filed in Aftermath

_____

After a long hiatus, last night marked OK Company’s return to the Gamebattles arena where they faced off against Team Nada in a 4v4, best of three match. After losing the first round of Search & Destroy on Skidrow, the Company rallied to to win the Demolition round on Favela. Bolstered by the win, OK Company went on to dominate the enemy in the final Headquarters round on Sub Base. Many thanks to Team Nada for a great match. Make sure to give Blud, N3G, ColDeath and new member Norther a hand for earning us our first “W” for this season. Expect more mayhem from OK Company in the near future!

Modern Warfare 2

Posted by M3RCUTIO on November 27th, 2009 filed in Reviews

_____

November 10th has come and gone, laying waste to the social lives of gamers everywhere with the release of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2. After a torrid affair with the first Modern Warfare that saw OK Company climbing the GB ladder and forging a name for themselves, the Company lost steam as the pressures of our private lives extinguished our collective competitive fire (or maybe that was just me).Participation dropped off, and we were all waiting for the “next big game” to rekindle our passions. Unfortunately, Infinity Ward delivered too incredible an experience with first Modern Warfare. We were spoiled and nothing managed to step in to fill that void in the community. It’s been a long time coming, but Infinity Ward has finally unleashed Modern Warfare 2 on the masses, and OK Company has jumped into the gameplay with the same kind of fervor with which we met the first title. Slowly, that fire is growing once again, and we’ve begun honing our competitive skills again. In the meantime, enjoy our Modern Warfare 2 review.

ArmA II

Posted by xIGuNDoCIx on July 2nd, 2009 filed in Reviews

_____

Okay, so you’ve probably gotten the message by now. I’ve written way too many post regarding this game over the past nine months, and with hindsight I realise that they’ve all been making the same three points: a) ArmA II is awfully pretty, b) ArmA II is absolutely massive and c) ArmA II is cruelly realistic.

All these observations remain well and true, but I won’t spend too much time making them again. What I will say is that these are likely to be the first three observations that you yourself will make, should you take the plunge and buy this game. “Ooh, isn’t it pretty?” you’ll cry as you explore the island of Chernarus for the first time. “Wow, isn’t it huge!” you exclaim, as you realise the full extent of your virtual playground. “Where the fuck did that come from?!” you’ll scream, as an unseen enemy fires a bullet into your digital skull, prematurely ending your game.

M3RC’s Metal Gear Solid 4 Impressions

Posted by M3RCUTIO on December 19th, 2008 filed in Reviews

_____

I picked up a Playstation 3 specifically so that I could play Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (MGS4). I played it quite heavily initially, but that came to a sudden halt when my personal life was thrown into upheaval. I’ve since begun the arduous task of sorting through the rubble of life as I’ve known it for the past seven years. As things have begun to approach an even keel, I decided to dive back in to MGS4. I figured I’d share my impressions.

Fable II Downloadable Content Coming Mid-December

Posted by NME on November 24th, 2008 filed in News

Fable II Box ArtIn a month’s time they should be wrapped around a rich, creamy new zone, chock full of new quests, items, clothes, and nougat. Less nougat than the other stuff, really. Somewhat interestingly is that all of the content will be spread across two downloads, one for free, and one that’ll cost ya.

Here’s what to expect in the forthcoming Fable II downloadable content, scheduled for a mid-December release (hence the title of this post, you know):

Knothole Island

Price - 800 Microsoft Dollars

The remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.

…new quests, wondrous items and bizarre characters await.

Also in mid-December, fans everywhere will be able to enhance their Fable II experience with the release of a free Fable II downloadable pack exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. To engage in co-op gameplay with a player who has already downloaded the Knothole Island content, gamers will need to download the free pack. Both co-op players must download the Knothole Island (Premium) pack in order to play new quests and enjoy the complete Knothole Island co-op experience.

Free and premium downloaders will receive a show of gifts, including Knight’s Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more.

It’s always nice to have new content available for the game, but there are plenty of issues with Fable II in it’s current form. I suppose it’s possible that some or all of the issues are addressed as part of this pack, but with no mention of it in Lionhead’s official release, I’m not optimistic.

SOCOM: Confrontation Beta Impressions

Posted by M3RCUTIO on September 28th, 2008 filed in Reviews

_____

As a long time supporter of the Ghost Recon series and former Xbox fanboy, there was a time that you wouldn’t find me anywhere near a SOCOM game. During my brief PSP-owning phase, I had rented SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo, but I don’t think that was really the best way to experience the popular franchise for the first time, as I don’t think it really conveyed the scope of the gameplay. At any rate, as a Ghost Recon fan, I was shocked when they transitioned to the third-person perspective, though it quickly grew on me, eventually setting the bar for tactical squad-based shooters with GRAW 2. Little did I know, that success wasn’t really the work of the innovators at Ubisoft. No, a great deal of the formula for that success had actually been borrowed from the SOCOM series. Fortunately, having abandoned my inner fanboy, I’m now getting the chance to see what I’ve been missing in SOCOM; and I must say, I’ve been missing a lot.

Back to the Front!

Posted by M3RCUTIO on September 7th, 2008 filed in News

_____

Things have been a little more than quiet for OK Company of late. With less than stellar clan support from Battlefield: Bad Company and members tending to real life matters, we just haven’t been keeping up our competitive edge. Our community remains intact, though general activity is down. But, with the holidays approaching, so too comes a glut of games that promise increased activity. This resurgence comes as no surprise. Like the changing of the seasons, the waxing and waning of our competitive interests are cyclical, held in sway by the opposing pulls of real life and release dates. Who knew that our latest calling would be on the Playstation 3? I sure as shit didn’t.

OFP 2: Dragon Rising Footage Makes Me a Believer

Posted by M3RCUTIO on July 18th, 2008 filed in E3 2K8

When GunDoc posted screenshots of Codemaster’s follow-up to Operation Flashpoint I was more than skeptical. This skepticism was only reinforced when IGN qualified those shots as being “previsualizations”. That was before GunDoc linked us to the above footage. After watching it, OFP 2 has quickly vaulted to the top of my list of most anticipated games.

Dashboard Update Walkthrough

Posted by M3RCUTIO on July 15th, 2008 filed in E3 2K8

So, you’ve seen the pictures, you’ve read the press releases and heard what the journalists have had to say about the Fall Dashboard Update, but maybe you want to see it in action. Well, look no further than the above video. Personally, I’m looking forward to it, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t miss the Dashboard I’ve had for nearly three years now. Oh, and did I say that I am thrilled about the Netflix partnership? No? Well, I am #@*!ing stoked.
